Oh man. Our family is trying to survive spring. For us, it means lots of hard work on just about everyday, but especially on Saturdays. Here's a list of things we've already done:1. Trimmed the bushes down the driveway.
2. Planted 30 or so tomato plants, 16 pepper plants, 20 lettuce plants, all in weed protecting fabric (think scissors and shovels)
3. Replanted 100 strawberry plants in the same fabric (again scissors and shovels)
4. Laid a patio for the dog kennel (John would have to give you all the specifics on that!)
5. Made a giant rock garden next to the dog kennel. We would have preferred mulch, and it would have been cheaper, but considering the ground was already dog-digging heaven, we knew we had to change it. Within the rock garden, we:
a. cleared the ground of grass
b. lay down MORE landscaping fabric
c. scooped mounds of dirt on the fabric to prevent it from blowing away
d. spread thousands and thousands of rocks (even Ethan did it in his "boot")
e. picked OUT the mounds of dirt
f. carried tons (literally) of larger rocks from one pile to another (done by Mark, preposterous amounts of testosterone, or, PREPOSTERONE!!)
e. encircled the entire thing in the larger rocks
6. Trimmed the dead branches off of the driveway trees
7. Weeded the area around the mailbox, by hand
8. Tilled the garden several times
9. Changed from tiller to mower to tiller to mower....
10. Still working on getting the entire lawn mowed at one time
11. Planted new hydrangea bushes, new guinea impatiens and heuchera
12. Planted sunflower seeds
Can anyone think of anything else?
Now, what we still have to do?
1. Finish mowing the lawn
2. Plant carrot, corn, cantaloupe and watermelon seeds
3. Get rid of the giant mounds of dirt next to the driveway
4. Mulch the front garden
5. Build a deck (yes, that's right, build a deck)
6. Install a stream and pond (yes, that's right, INSTALL a stream and pond)
Anything else? I'm exhausted just thinking about it.
