Electric cars

Hello Everyone,I don't know about you but I am sick of the price of gas and our dependance on the Middle East to keep us going in this country. What a sorry state of affairs it is that we have to pay to make the people in the middle east rich beyond belief, when some of them come back at us verbally or worse through physical attacks using the money we gave them.One of my pet peeves is the fact that the reason gas is going up again is everyone is emotionally upset by the middle eastern news of revolutions, so they buy oil on the commodity markets and jack the price of oil up to terrible heights. For example, in the past two weeks, since the revolution in Egypt, the price of gas has gone from about 3.20 to 3.40. Now, the cost of producing the oil and gas has not gone up, what has gone up is our fear level in this country and around the world that the supply will be less, so people with lots of money, buy oil commodities and this increases our cost at the pump. People around me have been saying, "the cost of oil is going to reach 4 or 5 dollars a gallon". The belief and fear of that fact in this country is going to make that statement true. Now, will the actual production costs of gas change in the next 4 to 6 months, NO. What is changing is that we are accepting of these crazy prices and the rich in our country are buying oil commodities and creating the havoc that increased prices cause. So, I have been feeling this for a long time, and unfortunately, there is not much we can do about it. However, there are some possibilities coming up in the next few years which we should all consider. There are two new cars, the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. They are electric cars, the Volt has a gas engine as well. Hybrids are ok, but the problem is they are still gas powered vehicles that charge a battery based on regenerative braking. We still have to pay for gas from OPEC. However, in this country we are producing our own electricity: coal, wind, hydroelectric, nuclear. All of these are our product we control and produce. Charging up a car from your electric supply at home would be breaking our dependance on OPEC for oil. So keep your eyes open, to this new possibility in auto technology. It would be great to get rid of all the gas guzzlers.Just some thoughts.
