Concertmaster Glo

Tonight was the first of three concerts for Glo while she is here.  She was concert master!

For those of you who aren't versed in orchestral terminology, here's a primer.  (Don't feel bad--if you told me your child was playing a certain position on a certain team, if it's not quarterback, I have no clue what it is.)  The first chair, first violin is called the Concert Master.  The person is, in theory, the best violinist in the orchestra.  They are the final performer to come out on stage, tuning the orchestra along with the oboe.  It's quite an honor, and Glo was stoked to be the Concert Master for the Junior Symphony Orchestra here at Interlochen.

Another bonus to being Concert Master is that if the composer has written a solo for a violin into the piece, the Concert Master plays it.  Lucky Glo, her conductor chose a piece where indeed, she was given a solo.

It was such a great night.  She did it all--walked out on the stage at Kresge Auditorium (confidently and quickly), she tuned the orchestra, she even played her solo perfectly when her shoulder rest fell off her violin just moments earlier. I even saw a wicked amount of vibrato happening--a fearful thing for Glo, but something that she is mastering.

It was a GREAT night!
