Bitburg Ward
Today we got to go to our old ward in Bitburg. The drive back excepted (which was pretty miserable, think snow and sliding cars the entire two and a half hours), it was a great time at the ward. There were only a couple of people who remembered us, but those who did, particularly the German members, were thrilled to see us. One of our really good friends, Harald Metzger, couldn't stop talking to me, and I even found it hard to go talk to other people because he wanted to talk to me so much! The main thing that I noticed was the happy atmosphere that permeated the entire ward. Everyone was smiling, people were coming up to talk to us, it was wonderful. It made me appreciate how awesome that ward was and how much I miss it.

In Sunday School, when Daddy stood up to introduce us, he said our names and then said that this was the best ward in which we had ever lived. The next person to introduce himself and his family was also a former bishop, and he said that he and his family mirrored our thoughts about the ward--it holds more wonderful memories for them than any others, and they have lived all over the world.
ReplyDeleteTruly, it was such a blessing to live there. Having visited another military ward the week before, I can testify that it's NOT the fact that it was a military ward that made the place so wonderful. It's just a wonderful, friendly, ward spirit that is in that building and the people who attend there.
Despite the horrible drive home, it was totally worth it to return there again.
