FOOD!!!

Food, food, food, nothing but food. Yesterday, as we approached the Trier Weihnachtsmarkt, we were all thinking of one thing: BRATKATOFFELN! Bratkattoffeln are potatoes, fried just right so they steam, but cool enogh that they don't burn your mouth. They have no spices, ketchup, or salt added and they taste AMAAAAAZING! They are soft and tasty and served nowhere else in the world; we think...

As we ate our bratkattoffeln, Ethan and Daddy finished their plates in minutes. As usual, they were still hungry. Ethan decided to scour the market until he came across Apfelphannekuchen. A sort of flatcake served with cinnamon sugar and apple slices baked into the phannekuchen. As Ethan walked back to our table and tucked in, we all stared. It smelled delicious and looked just as good. Glo soon declared her desire for the tasty treat and Mommy and I soon followed. It almost melted in your mouth, ohhh, it was so good. The cinnamon sugar added just enough taste as not to overpower the flatcake but enough that it didn't need syrup, whipped cream, or butter.

Now, the Weihnachtsmarkt isn't the only place to find good food. Restaurants are as well. We searched for a hotel or resaturant that served german food. Now that might seem easy but we passesd about three restaurants that served Italian food and fish. YUM! The family finally approached a small inn that had schnitzel, snitzel and more schnitzel. We all ordered... SCHNITZEL! WOW! We ordered Jaeggar schnitzel and Wiener schnitzel. As we waited in suspense for our taste of Germany, we sipped our no free-refill drinks not daring to drink too much before dinner. It came out on plates steaming with pommes frites and... Schnitzel! Lemon slices were perched atop the schnitzel to add more taste, not that it needed it. We all dug in not waiting any longer. Oh how perfect it was. The entire family finished at least one of their schnitzels within seconds of each other. We were so happy to taste German food again.

One of the greatest things about Germany is its unique food. From bratkattoffeln to Kinderwien to Schnitzel. Oh how happy I am to be back in Deutschland!
